This 3-day family devotional is designed to help you explore what it means to follow Jesus by obeying His Great Commission. Together, you’ll discover how every believer is called to go, to publicly declare their faith through baptism, and to keep growing as disciples who make disciples. Whether you're young or old, new to the faith or growing deeper—this is your moment to get off the sidelines and into the mission of God.
Jesus called the play. Now it’s time to run it—together.
Get in the Game: Family Devotional
Week 1: Run the Play (Matthew 28:18–20)
Day 1: We Are Called to Go
Scripture:
Matthew 28:19a (CSB) – "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations..."
Devotional Thought:
Jesus doesn’t say, “Sit and wait.” He says, “Go!” That means He wants us to live on mission—every day, everywhere we go. Whether we’re at school, work, the grocery store, or on social media, we’re called to show people what Jesus is like. Jesus gave this command not just to pastors or missionaries, but to every follower—including us!
Jesus invites us to join His team. We don’t have to be perfect to play—just willing. As you go through your day, look for ways to love, encourage, or talk about Jesus with someone.
Discussion Questions:
1. What do you think it means to “go” for Jesus?
2. Where are places you go each day that could be opportunities to share God's love?
3. as someone ever told you about Jesus? What do you remember most?
Family Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for inviting us to be a part of what You’re doing in the world. Help us not just sit on the sidelines but be ready to go where You send us. Give us courage to live out our faith every day. Amen.
Day 2: Baptism Means I Belong
Scripture:
Matthew 28:19b (CSB) – "…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…"
Devotional Thought:
Baptism is a big celebration in the life of a believer. It’s a symbol that says, “I’m on God’s team now.” Just like a player wears a jersey to show which team they’re on, baptism is a public way of showing that we belong to Jesus and His family, the church.
If you’ve been baptized, remember that moment and what it meant. If you haven’t, maybe it’s time to think about making that decision after giving your life to Jesus.
Discussion Questions:
1. Have you been baptized? What do you remember about it?
2. Why do you think Jesus made baptism part of the play?
3. What are some ways we show others that we belong to Jesus?
Family Prayer:
God, thank You for giving us a way to show that we belong to You. Thank You for baptism and for the family of God. Help us live like we’re on Your team—united, committed, and ready to follow. Amen.
Day 3: Disciples Keep Growing
Scripture:
Matthew 28:20 (CSB) – "…teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Devotional Thought:
Being a disciple means we keep learning, growing, and following Jesus. It doesn’t stop when we become Christians—it just starts! Jesus wants us to obey everything He taught, and the good news is that we’re not alone. He promised to be with us always.
God uses His Word, the church, and godly friends and leaders to teach us how to live. Our job is to listen, learn, and pass it on to others.
Discussion Questions:
1. What’s something you’ve learned about Jesus recently?
2. Who teaches you about following Jesus?
3. How can we help someone else grow in their faith?
Family Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being with us as we grow. Help us follow Your Word, obey Your commands, and become more like You. Teach us to teach others, too. We want to be faithful disciples who make more disciples. Amen.
