This 3-day family devotional is designed to help you explore what it means to follow Jesus by obeying His Great Commission. Together, you’ll discover how every believer is called to go, to publicly declare their faith through baptism, and to keep growing as disciples who make disciples. Whether you're young or old, new to the faith or growing deeper—this is your moment to get off the sidelines and into the mission of God.
Jesus called the play. Now it’s time to run it—together.
Get in the Game: Family Devotional
Week 1: Come and See
Day 1 – Curious, Convenience, Commitment
Scripture: John 1:38
"When Jesus turned and noticed them following him, he asked them, ‘What are you looking for?’”
Devotional Thought:
Jesus’ question to these first followers gets to the heart of discipleship: What are you looking for? In our journey with Jesus, we often pass through three stages:
Curious: Like the disciples who first trailed behind Him, we check things out. We’re exploring, asking questions, attending church, but haven’t made a decision yet.
Convenience: We like Jesus’ teachings, admire His works, and enjoy the benefits—but when following costs us something, we hesitate.
Commitment: We’ve counted the cost and decided there’s no turning back. Like Peter in John 6:68, we say, “Where else would we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
Following Jesus isn’t just about starting the journey—it’s about moving past curiosity and convenience into full commitment.
Reflection Question:
Which stage describes your walk with Jesus right now—curious, convenience, or commitment? What would it take to move to the next level?
Prayer:
“Lord, help me see where I truly am in following You. Give me courage to move beyond curiosity or convenience into full commitment.”
Day 2 – The Invitation to Follow
Scripture: John 1:39
"‘Come,’ he replied, ‘and you will see.’"
Devotional Thought:
Jesus’ call is both simple and profound. He doesn’t hand them a checklist or a detailed plan—He invites them into relationship. In the first-century rabbi-disciple model, this meant living life with the teacher: walking where he walked, eating what he ate, and learning by imitation.
Jesus still calls us the same way today. Discipleship isn’t just about learning information—it’s about transformation through proximity to Him. The only way to truly see is to truly follow.
Reflection Question:
Where is Jesus inviting you to “come and see” in your life right now?
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for inviting me to walk with You. Teach me to follow closely and see what You are doing.”
Day 3 – No Benchwarmers in the Kingdom
Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…”
Devotional Thought:
Before you can make disciples, you have to be one. But once you are, there’s no such thing as riding the bench in God’s Kingdom. Every believer is called to “get in the game.” Jesus’ final command was not a suggestion—it was the mission.
Being a disciple means going where He sends, baptizing in His name, and teaching others what He has taught you. This isn’t reserved for pastors or missionaries—it’s the call for every follower of Jesus.
Reflection Question:
Where might God be calling you to take action instead of staying on the sidelines?
Prayer:
“Lord, I don’t want to watch from the sidelines. Show me where and how to take the next step in Your mission.”
