Built for the Future

Faith isn’t automatic—it’s handed down. This week, discover how to make spiritual deposits in your children’s hearts through consistent, intentional moments. Learn how to build a legacy of faith that outlives you and outshines the culture.

This Is God’s House

Week 3: Built for the Future – 3-Day Family Devotional Guide

Theme: As parents and leaders, our greatest legacy isn't what we achieve—it's who we equip. God calls us not only to run our race with faith but to pass that faith on to the next generation.

Big Idea: Faith grows when it’s fastened, not when it’s assumed.

Day 1 – Train Intentionally

Read: Proverbs 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it."

Devotional Thought:

Training isn’t passive. It’s intentional, consistent, and hands-on. Just like a screwdriver fastens things in place, our job as parents is to secure values and truths before the world can shake them loose. Don’t just hope your children figure it out—train them in what’s right.

Reflection Questions for Adults:

- What are you doing regularly to train your children in faith?

- Is your approach more reactive or intentional?

Family Questions for Kids:

- What is something you’ve learned about God this week?

- What’s one thing you think is important to know about living for Jesus?

Prayer:

"Lord, help me to be intentional with how I lead the next generation. Give me wisdom and grace as I train them in your ways."

Day 2 – Discipline Lovingly

Read: Ephesians 6:4

"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord."

Devotional Thought:

Discipline is about connection, not just correction. Our tone, consistency, and care matter just as much as our instructions. When we discipline with love, we reinforce not just rules—but the relationship. Remember the four key truths: You are SAFE, LOVED, CAPABLE, and RESPONSIBLE.

Reflection Questions for Adults:

- Do your children feel loved when they are being corrected?

- How can you model God’s grace and truth in discipline?

Family Questions for Kids:

- What helps you feel safe and loved when someone corrects you?

- How can we all grow in listening and learning when we make mistakes?

Prayer:

"Father, give me patience and compassion as I guide my children. Help me discipline in a way that connects their hearts to You."

Day 3 – Live Faithfully

Read: Psalm 101:1–2

"I will sing of faithful love and justice; I will sing praise to you, Lord. I will pay attention to the way of integrity. When will you come to me? I will live with a heart of integrity in my house."

Devotional Thought:

Children watch more than they listen. Your private faith impacts their future walk. Living faithfully means living with integrity at home, not just in public. The baton is passed not by speech alone—but by example.

Reflection Questions for Adults:

- What message does your lifestyle send to your children about faith?

- Are there areas where God is calling you to greater integrity at home?

Family Questions for Kids:

- What does it mean to live with integrity?

- How can we make sure Jesus is a part of our everyday family life?

Prayer:

"Jesus, help me live with integrity and faith in my home. Let my life be a testimony that stirs faith in the next generation."
